Royal Poinciana trees

WE ALL GOT A LITTLE POD CRAZY THIS SEASON. THE SEED PODS FROM THE ROYAL POINCIANA TREE MAKE GREAT SHAKERS FOR JUNKANOO AND PAINTED THEY ARE WONDERFUL DECORATIONS. MY FRIEND CAROLYN WENT CRAZY PAINTING THEM IN A CARIBE THEME AND EVEN GOT HER CLASS IN MARSH HARBOUR TO DECORATE AND SHE ALSO GOT HER PRE-SCHOOL ATLANTA CHILDREN TO PAINT THEM.  WHAT THAT MEANS IS SHE IS TRANSPORTING ENOUGH BEAN PODS BACK TO ATLANTA TO START AN ART PROJECT THAT CAN BE EXCHANGED WITH THE STUDENTS HERE AT EVERY CHILD COUNTS IN MARSH HARBOUR.

There's Carolyn picking up pods on Bootle Highway in Marsh Harbour. She never missed an opportunity to pick up dropped pods from the Royal Poinciana Tree and supplied all the crafty folks at Boat Harbour with art medium while painting them herself for family and friends. What a treat!

Peggy found that they make wonderful compliments to pine needle baskets and incorporated them in several baskets this season.

Great Guana Cay

A VISIT TO GREAT GUANA CAY ISN'T COMPLETE WITHOUT AN AFTERNOON AT WORLD FAMOUS NIPPER'S ON THE BEACH. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH YOU WILL EVER SEE IN YOUR LIFETIME.

The Commodores Ball is an annual event held at the Abaco Beach Resort and Boat Harbour Marina, this year the theme was Hawaii and the decorations and costumes were fun and we all had a great evening of music, dancing and dining.

Big Tuna

Yesterday, club members on a 54 foot sportfishing boat "Peggy", wowed the marina with their catch of the day~~~a 678 lb. Blackfin tuna. Caught 7 miles off Elbow Cay in the Atlantic Ocean. Generous portions were given out to all of us in the marina and to all the employees of the Abaco Beach Resort where we reside for the winter months. Our yacht club, Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club, is based in the Abacos and the majority of the boats are together in the same marina and total over 65 boats.

Heidi after a swim at Tahiti Beach
Terry, Peggy and Heidi onboard m/v More Attitude spent a quiet anchor at Tahiti Beach off of Elbow Cay for a few days last week. We dingied in everyday for a walk on the beach and a swim with Heidi.

Abaco Beach Resort

We are all safely stowed in our winter slip at Boat Harbour on the Sea of Abaco. Monthly social events are posted and the daily events include, water aerobics, yoga, bocci ball, bridge, arts and crafts or just snooze around the pool and play dominoes.  Our club, The Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club is headquartered here in the winter months and we have approximately 60 boats in the marina and about another 25 club boats moored either in the harbor at Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay and Hopetown Harbour. So our monthly get-to-gether's are fun and lively. Our first big annual Club event is the Chili Cookoff on January 11th, male chefs only are judged for their category. Chef Terry won Best Overall in 2009 so he will be a judge for the event. So far 22 chefs have signed up to bring a gallon of chili each.
